Using the CheeekyChoo’s Daycare Diary™
The Daycare Diary is easy to use. Use it to record as much or as little information as you want to – you choose!
Use your diary on a day to day basis to let the carers know anything in particular that they need to know for the day ahead. Complete the relevant details on the diary page for the day ahead and ask your day care staff to complete the rest of the information for that day. A quick and easy but effective method of communication!
All about me!
The first section at the front of the journal has lots of different subsections for you to complete –
- Personal details for recording things like name, date of birth and address.
- Parent’s and Carer’s details
- Emergency contact details.
- Health & Wellbeing to record child’s doctor’s details and any medical conditions or other important medical information. You may want to record information about any allergies or illnesses or special need here.
- Napping & Nappies. What time your child usually takes their nap and any particular preferences or requirements – dummies, comforter etc.
- Food & Drink to record likes/dislikes, any special dietary requirements or intolerances and allergies. You can record here anything you would rather your child not eat or drink.
There is also space for you to insert a picture of your little one and pictures of you and any other parent’s or carer’s you want to record details of.
Daily Diary
Then the second part of the Diary is the daily diary section with each daily page containing structured information spaces for you and your child’s carer’s to record all the information about their day. Each week day contains space to record the following information:
- Who your child will be dropped off by and what time
- Who your child will be collected by and what time
- Parents’ notes for the day
- Breakfast foods eaten and time
- Snacks
- Food eaten at lunch and what time
- Food eaten at tea time and what time
- Naps taken and the times
- Nappy change details or details on potty training
- Details on what your child has been doing that day
- A space to record special moments and highlights of the day
- A space for additional notes
- A space for the key carer to sign for the day’s information

Weekends
The weekends are laid out slightly different – Saturday and Sunday can be found on one page with space to record the following information for each day:
- Food eaten
- Activities
- Additional notes
There is also a space at the bottom of the weekend page to record what your child has learned that particular week so you can keep track of those special milestone moments.
Weekly Menu
At the end of every week there is a page inserted containing a table designed for you to record your child’s weekly food diary for the coming week– you can use this to record the menu at the Nursery or the childminders or ask them to fill this in to give you an idea of what foods your child will be eating during the week to come. Having a son with allergies this is really useful for me so that I can keep track of what’s on his weekly menu and help his carer’s at Nursery avoid any foods that he shouldn’t eat or that I would rather he didn’t have. The weekly menu is Just another option if you want or need to be organised about food – if you feel you don’t need it simply leave it blank.
Special days
Special dates during the year are marked in the diary such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. There is also more diary space around Christmas Eve and Christmas day for you to list other things that you might want to record and also space for photos in this area.
Notes
There are a few blank pages left at the end in case there is any specific information that you want to capture that isn’t already accounted for elsewhere in the diary, or simply for you to use for more photographs or your children’s drawings for example.
Below are some samples of pages to help you get started using your diary.
